For over 3 years we have been testing the use of neem oil as a natural way to improve yields in agriculture. The tests carried out, in particular those implemented in 2019 with 60 farmers on more than 30 hectares, have shown the effectiveness of this technique both in combating army worms, which destroy up to 40% of crops, and in reducing by half the doses of fertilizer used for coating or for the 20% increase in yields by improving the root system of plants.
To popularize this promising technique, widely applied in India, on a large scale, we must now develop a local production chain.
Goal : Produce 3000 liters for serve 1,500 farmers from next year.
To achieve this, several conditions must be met:
Collect enough seeds (several tons). We have therefore started to set up a collection network in the areas where neem is most established. We also encourage farmers to plant it by distributing free neem plans.
To dry seeds at 10% moisture. We have just developed a solar dryer made by a local carpenter to avoid using electric dryers.
Shell the seeds before pressing them. Shelling is a delicate job which, done by hand, takes a lot of time and greatly increases the price per liter of oil, which then becomes too expensive for the farmers. We have therefore managed to find a neem seed huller made in India and which we will import as soon as we have the means.
