In 1990, ECHOPPE started the first program of small loans program in Africa. It was in Togo, in the city of Lomé. To date, more than 200,000 women have benefited from these small loans* and social support to escape poverty. Echoppe Togo, which took over from ECHOPPE in 2006, is today one of the primary microfinance institutions in Togo. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of ECHOPPE in 2020, Muhammad YUNUS, founder of the Grameen bank and winner of the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize had hoped to join us. Unfortunately, because of COVID, this was postponed for a later date. ( For more information, visit our site www.echoppe.org)
